Although it may have seemed that ‘The Avisi’ was an overnight success, nothing could be further from the truth. The band, fronted by singer Carl Ward and his close friend Gavin Powell on guitar, started as a cover band in Swansea, Wales. By 2009, the band decided that it was time to begin using their own material, with modern influences such as ‘The Killers’, ‘Kasabian’, and ‘The Enemy’. Once the thought was in motion, the band recruited fellow members, Nikki Hicks on bass and Gavin’s younger brother Lee on drums.
Following the next year of life on the road, the band hit the studio hard to record their EP, ‘Life Through Abstract Eyes’, which gained them airplay on BBC Radio and local radio stations in their native Cities of Swansea and Cardiff. With the band’s stardom rising due to frequent touring and airplay seeping into other areas of the UK, the band started to become a modest success.
Currently, ‘The Avisi’ are hard at it again, with being back in the studio recording, to produce another new EP, which due to come out in early 2011. Demand is already high for the disc following their last successful EP, ‘Life Through Abstract Eyes’, which can be purchased on all on-line music retail stores such as iTunes. In addition ‘The Avisi’ are recording a promotional video for they hit song, ‘Hold Me’, which will feature on all of the popular video websites. This will also appear in the early months of 2011.
Even with all this going on, ‘The Avisi’ have only been together for just shy of 1 year.
