«pop-punk» - best artists
Pop punk is a subgenre of pop rock with a punk rock volume and distortion, deep bass lines, electric guitars playing power chords and bar chords and energetic and often catchy drum beats. The music is known to sound very happy and cheerful usually and to be very catchy often. It can be called the hybrid of pop and punk. It’s NOT punk rock music, but is often influenced by it as well as alternative rock and pop rock. The bands/artists that play this genre include Sum 41, Blink-182, MxPx, My Chemical Romance, Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Less Than Jake, New Found Glory, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan and Avril Lavigne. It was massively popular in the late 1990s and 2000s. Bands such as Pennywise, NoFX, Green Day, the Descendants, the Clash, Guttermouth, Black Flag, Misfits, Dead Kennedys and the Offspring are major influences on the genre. Although the genre was very mainstream in the 2000s and late 1990s, it was criticized by some punk rock fans as not real punk rock cause it’s pop rock and punk rock didn’t have a pop rock sound, it was supposed to be said to be more hard-edged and root instead from garage rock. Some critics who bashed the genre have sometimes called it pseudo-punk or mall-punk.
