Cor Fuhler piano

Thomas Lehn analogue synthesizer

Rhodri Davies harp

John Butcher tenor and soprano saxophone

In Cortet, the influence of the electronic music of the last 10 years or so is apparent, in the aesthetic, sound and form - despite the fact that 3 of the 4 instruments are acoustic!

The sax doesn’t seem to be blown, and sounds like a twittering synthesizer; the harp produces laptop clicks ‘n cuts; de piano is alternately electro mechanic sinus generator, string section and spinning top; and the only real electronic instrument, the analogue synthesizer transforms itself into an acoustic phenomenon. You constantly ask yourself: “Who’s playing what?”

The four musicians all play in a variety of contexts and genres, from classical to electronic to jazz, and come from different backgrounds (Fuhler from the Netherlands, Lehn from Germany, Davies from Wales and Butcher from England). Despite this they have a remarkably united musical vision and share a deep interest in sound for sound’s sake.
