The religion instituted by Christ anciently centered on the transformation of the individual. The prophets predicted that in a future day, God's people would receive a new heart—one after the order of heaven (Jeremiah 31:33-34; Ezekiel 36:36-38). This is the change the Savior came to set in motion, transforming His followers into the sons of God (John 1:12). Those who become the sons of God share a character and likeness with Christ; consequently, they have a fellowship with Him in this life, and will be the only ones to dwell with Him in the life to come (D&C 76:50-59; Romans 8:16-17).
