Williams is Associate Professor of African American history at Monmouth University and Gillam is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Southern California. She is also the author of Visualizing Black Lives: Ownership and Control in Afro-Brazilian Media published by the University of Illinois Press in 2022. This conversation is focused on her recent book Visualizing Black Lives.
